| Mr. Palaniappan pursued his basic medical education, on a scholarship, at the Stanley Medical College, Madras, and was then posted to Sabah. He underwent training at the Charing Cross Hospital in London and at the Royal National Throat Nose and Ear Hospital, London, qualifying with a Diploma in Otolaryngology of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and a Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Following that, he continued training as Registrar and did a short stint as Senior Registrar during which period he took up additional training in maxillo facial trauma surgery and endoscopic sinus surgery. He returned home to serve initially at the Kuala Lumpur General Hospital as clinical specialist and then at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Sabah followed by some years at the Penang General Hospital, as an ENT surgeon and Head of the Department. |

He had been a lecturer at the Penang Campus of the Medical Faculty of the University Science Malaysia and a tutor to the medical students at the Charing Cross Hospital Medical School, London. While at the Kuala Lumpur General Hospital, he had been actively involved in teaching and training Master’s Degree students of the UKM. He is currently an Examiner to the Penang Medical College. |

| His current surgical interests include nasal allergies and the prevention and control of it as well as hearing conservation, endoscopic sinus surgery and maxillo facial trauma surgery along with other general ENT surgical procedures. |

| He is an active member of the Malaysian Medical Association at the state and national levels, participating in various capacities including organising and running annual teaching courses for doctors. He is married with two children. His hobbies include computing, photography and ham radio. |
