| Mr. Heah is a former student of Penang Free School who completed his ‘A’ Levels at St. Edmund’s Boarding School, Canterbury, Kent. He studied medicine at the RCSI in Dublin from 1969 to 1975. After graduation and a period of housemanship at St. Lawrence’s Hospital, Dublin, he was selected to participate in the RCSI surgical training scheme and had worked in leading Irish hospitals during that period. |

In 1979, he obtained his Diploma in Child Health (DCH) from the University College in Dublin. |

| Following completion of his FRCSI in 1981, he worked as a Surgical Registrar before returning to Malaysia in 1984 to work as a Surgical Specialist and Head of Surgical Unit II at Penang General Hospital. |
| |
| He joined Gleneagles Medical Centre, Penang, in 1992 as a resident Consultant General Surgeon with a special interest in surgical oncology. |
