| Dr. Gan was awarded a Singapore government scholarship to pursue a medical degree at the University of Singapore. After her graduation, she worked at different hospitals in Singapore before returning to Penang to work at the Penang General Hospital. It was here that she had her basic training in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology. |

She then spent a year in the United Kingdom, initially at King’s College Hospital and subsequently at Derby City Hospital. Further postgraduate training in Gynaecological Oncology was attained at the Mayo Clinic and at the University of California (Irvine) in the United States. |

| Dr. Gan joined the Gleneagles Medical Centre, Penang in 1990 and started laparoscopic surgery in 1992. In 2000, she was made a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists. |

| She, in collaboration with the Melbourne Fertility Services (M), established the IVF Laboratory in the premises of Gleneagles Medical Centre, Penang, in 2000. She is very much involved in laparoscopic surgery. |

| She is active in voluntary social work. In 1993, Jaycees (Malaysia) awarded her the “Outstanding Young Malaysian Award” for personal achievement. |

| She is married and her happiest moments are spent with her family. |
